Welcome, Page 18! May your future be fruitful! One of downtown Oxford’s historic buildings celebrated a new chapter Thursday afternoon when the chamber of commerce conducted a ribbon-cutting ceremony for Page 18, the bookstore on the southwest corner of Washington and Burdick streets.
Owned by Oxford residents Pat and Lori Miller, the store offers a wide selection of both new and used books. “We have a little bit of everything,” Lori said.
Romance, mystery, history, children’s literature, biographies, do-it-yourself – Page 18’s shelves look like a scene straight out of a book lover’s dream.
It’s very important to Lori that her store offer used books because “not everybody can afford a brand-new $30 book.”
“That’s not in everybody’s budget and I want everybody to be able to buy a book,” she said. “People should be able to spend $3.99 or $4.99 and find something they enjoy.”
With eight years of professional house cleaning behind her and her children college-bound, Lori felt ready for a fresh start.
“I wanted to do something I enjoy and books are what I know,” she said.
Page 18 has an event room that’s been used for everything from book signings to Galentine’s Day bingo. Lori hopes to host other events, like euchre parties, open mic nights and talent shows. Customers are welcome to read, sip coffee and relax in this space.
Folks interested in renting the space for private events, meetings, study groups, etc. are encouraged to stop in and see Lori.
Pat envisions Page 18 becoming “a cornerstone of the community,” a place for people to gather and socialize.
Prior to Page 18, the circa 1880 two-story building at 1 S. Washington St. housed drugstores from the 1940s through May 2025. For most of that time, it was the home of Patterson Prescription Pharmacy. Prior to the 1940s, the building housed grocery stores (including Kroger), a cigar factory, a doctor’s office, a post office and a pool/billiards hall.
Page 18 is open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday and from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday. The store is closed on Mondays.
