Patriotism in the park!
The Spirit of ’76 – both 1776 and 1876 – came alive in downtown Oxford’s Centennial Park on Thursday evening.

Dressed in colonial attire, members of the Jeremiah Clark Chapter of the Sons of the American Revolution marched in to proudly present the colors.

Northeast Oakland Historical Society President Drew Holt read the Preamble to the U.S. Constitution, then gave a brief history of Oxford’s founding, which included the organization of the township in 1837 and the village’s incorporation in 1876.

Folks of all ages were given opportunities to sign a reproduction of the Declaration of Independence, view artifacts from Oxford’s 1976 time capsule and check out the brand-new time capsule that’s waiting to filled.

It was a fun, uplifting and memorable evening!

Pampering your pets just got easier!
It was so much fun attending Thursday’s ribbon-cutting ceremony for Zoomin Groomin – North Oakland, MI, conducted by the Oxford Chamber of Commerce at Journey Lutheran Church.

Owned by Collin Thompson, the mobile pet spa brings professional dog and cat grooming services right to people’s homes. Zoomin Groomin provides the ultimate convenience for pet parents and a safe, stress-free, caring environment for the animals they adore.

Oxford Township Supervisor Jack Curtis presented Thompson with the first of the township’s new welcome certificates for businesses. Photos by C.J. Carnacchio.

Koenig Materials 'rocks' as a host!
A ton of folks – ranging from little ones to senior citizens – gathered at Koenig Materials on Thursday for the company’s annual community appreciation event.

Bus tours of the mining operation and opportunities to climb all over some earth-moving equipment made for an educational and entertaining experience. Mining has been happening on the Koenig site since 1928.

And the food . . . oh, the food! Hamburgers, hot dogs, baked beans and potato salad made for a scrumptious lunch.

Thank you, Koenig Materials, for being a great neighbor, a gracious host and a wonderful community partner! Kudos! Photos by C.J. Carnacchio.
